<p>As a Data Scientist on REI’s Supply Chain Strategy Team, your work will support the design and optimization of our supply chain network. This will help us better serve our customers. You will use data science tools and techniques to solve difficult optimization problems. You will also ensure our network is responsive, efficient, and aligned with REI’s strategic goals. These goals focus on enhancing customer experience through reliable, fast, efficient, and sustainable delivery. You will help us adapt to changing business conditions. You will also anticipate future growth by using advanced analytics and predictive modeling.</p><p><br></p><p>This role connects data science with creative problem solving. It helps REI predict future needs, adapt to changes, and make better recommendations. These recommendations improve service, lower costs, and support growth. You will work with different departments to collect and examine data. Your insights will guide strategic recommendations and real improvements. You will also improve REI’s supply chain infrastructure and data-backed skills. Staying current with trends and technology in data science and supply chain management is important. Using predictive analytics, you will forecast trends and find growth opportunities. This keeps our supply chain flexible and ready for market changes.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Develop and maintain advanced models to support:</li><li><u>Customer-centric network design:</u> Optimize DC and store locations, inventory placement, and fulfillment paths based on customer demand and service expectations. Create a dynamic Supply Chain Network. Ensure it can respond to changing customer expectations, omnichannel demand, carrier performance, and cost-to-serve pressures.</li><li><u>Omnichannel fulfillment strategies:</u> Evaluate trade-offs between ship-from-store, DC fulfillment, and third-party logistics to improve speed and reduce cost.</li><li><u>Inventory health and demand sensing:</u> Use machine learning to forecast demand, identify slow-moving inventory, and improve replenishment strategies.</li><li><u>Scenario planning and simulation:</u> Build models to evaluate how strategic recommendations affect customer experience and cost. Examples include new DCs, delivery promises, and promotional events.</li><li><u>Network resilience and what-if modeling:</u> Simulate disruptions (e.g., port closures, supplier failures) and their impact on service levels and costs.</li><li>Examine complex supply chain systems to provide data-driven insights. Support quick actions in a dynamic, integrated supply chain network.</li><li>Identify and interpret trends and patterns in supply chain performance data to find influences. Identify key drivers. Use results to recommend changes and find areas for improvement.</li><li>Design and optimize supply chain architecture to ensure scalability, reliability, and security.</li><li>Collaborate with supply chain engineers and IT teams to implement solutions that align with business needs.</li><li>Conduct supply chain capacity planning and performance analysis to support future growth and technology advancements.</li><li>Evaluate and integrate new supply chain technologies and tools to enhance performance and efficiency.</li><li>Provide continuous delivery and deep examination to model multiple facets of impacts associated with supply chain disruptions.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Required Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>A combination of a Master's degree and 4 years professional experience, or Bachelor's degree and 8 years professional experience.</li><li>5+ years experience in three or more of the following areas of discipline: Data Science, Machine Learning, Network Optimization</li><li>5+ years experience data mining and extraction skills like SQL, Python, R</li><li>Experience working with raw and prepared data in various RDBMS systems, such as Snowflake, Oracle, TeraData, and Redshift. Experience also includes NoSQL environments like Hadoop, Spark, and Athena.</li><li>Understands challenges in business area, applicability of relevant data science disciplines, and system interactions.</li><li>Be fluent with statistical and machine learning algorithms. These include selection trees, neural networks, collaborative filtering, clustering, survival examination, and graph theory.</li><li>Knowledge of and experience working within cloud computing environments such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud</li><li>Ability to examine and design scalable processes and develop measurements to control these processes.</li><li>Proven ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects, requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.</li><li>Expertise in Excel, Tableau, Sigma, and/or other data-based and data visualization platforms.</li><li>Proven track record of cultivating exceptional relationships with key stakeholders, resulting in high customer satisfaction.</li><li>Ability to conduct supply chain capacity planning and performance analysis to support future growth and technology advancements.</li><li>Proficiency in developing and maintaining supply chain network design documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and standards.</li><li>Understanding of supply chain principles and best practices to ensure the efficiency and reliability of the network.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>At REI, we believe the outdoors is for all.</strong> We are committed to becoming a <u>fully inclusive, anti-racist, multicultural organization</u>.
